MEMORIES OF TASMANIAS WEST COAST by MORLEY L J
Today the West Coast is known for its beauty, tourist and mining industries, but in days past it was also known for its timber, railways and its isolation from the rest of Tasmania. The only way one visited the west was the Emu Bay Railway that ran from Burnie to Zeehan, or by sea travelling from the north or from Hobart in the south, a voyage that could take up to a week. With the opening of the West Coast road in 1932 the west could now be reached by road transport. Memories of Tasmania's West Coast is a pictorial journey through the construction of the West Coast road, the Great Lake road to Bronte, the Tarraleah road, and the Queenstown to Zeehan road, now all highways. We see the hydro scheme take shape and the trucks that once worked at the Mount Lyell Copper Mine, the bus companies that pioneered the bus routes along with the first transporters, motorists and other road users.

TROUT WATERS OF TASMANIA by FRENCH GREG
the new (third) edition 'Your average trout has the rapacity of a shark and the intellect of an oyster, it would be a greater fly-tying achievement to devise a fly that would never catch a trout than one which would.' Stan HeadleyIts here! Its been nearly a decade since TTW was published, and the book has since became known as the bible for anyone wishing to know where and when to fish in Tasmania. The comprehensively re-worked 2011 edition, titled Trout Waters of Tasmania, has evolved even further to include more waters, and features an even greater coverage of the great Tasmanian river fisheries. Weve been proud to help Greg out with new features, including comprehensive river level references for the northern rivers, and awesome maps of the Meander, Mersey, Macquarie, St Patricks and Brumbys Creek. The Brumbys Creek Top Weir map is priceless, clearly displaying the best fishing areas, which are the floodplains that inundate during periods of high flow. The lake maps have been re-worked also, and now show the shorelines at full supply levels, average levels, and low levels. These maps alone make the new Trout Waters of Tasmania an invaluable purchase.

LIVING IN HISTORY by WARNER GEORGIA BENNETT ALICE
A beautiful journey in colour to some of the most spectacular and historic houses in Tasmania, filled with surprising stories of the people who inhabit them.
DescriptionTasmania's first European settlers were a diverse and eclectic lot-men and women from all walks of life who ended up cast together in a far-flung colony at the end of the world, where adversity was commonplace but opportunity abounded.
From former convicts to the highly privileged, they forged their own ways in Van Diemen's land - as farmers, traders, publicans, whalers, businessmen, politicians and more. As they, along with the colony, prospered, they built places of residence and business that stand today as a testament to the quality of Tasmania's early craftsmanship, the wealth of some of its first European residents, and their desire to recreate a piece of home in their new surrounds, no matter how hostile the environment.
Tasmania is blessed that so many of these buildings are intact today. Some have been in the same families since the 1820s, others have been saved from ruin or converted into homes after previous lives as anything from hop kilns to coach houses and public schools. All have fascinating stories to tell that reflect the diversity of those early settlers, the adversities they faced and the opportunities they harnessed, as well as of the characters that inhabit them today.
Living in History tells some of these stories through sumptuous photos of Tasmania's most historically and architecturally significant buildings, complemented by text that transports the reader back in time and takes them through to the present, where the current generation of homeowners is literally living in history.
